Because distinguishing between Turks and Kurds for the 1890–1900 period is impossible, we collectively indicated them as 'Muslim'. I presume we can consider the entire Muslim population at the beginning of the 20th century to have been Kurdish-speaking, with the exception of a small minority in the cities. Conversely, we would not be far wrong in stating that most of those whose native language was Turkish during that period were religiously Armenian.
